Most education is about a specific body of knowledge being transferred to a student over time using a variety of instructional means. There are certain parameters that must be assumed in the process.
All of us are familiar with this process and are, indeed, in some ways the product of it.
Because each disciple is indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God, they have within them the greatest teacher of all. Information can still be passed from one person to another in the way described above but the presence of Christ in a disciple's life and the instructor's life dramatically changes the equation. Education is no longer simply about mastering a particular body of knowledge but it is about learning to listen to and learn from the Spirit who is the master of all knowledge and wisdom.
In this pedagogy, God is the active agent and the mentors/teachers are the passive equippers helping students to discover what God has done, is doing and will accomplish through their life. Because God is already at work designing a unique and one of a kind story for each life, E2:10 Training is tailored to the individual disciple.
Paul tells us in Ephesians that each of us is a great masterpiece created, and recreated by God Himself for specific good works that He has ordained for us to do.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
The Greek word translated as “masterpiece” is the word poiema. It is where we get our own word poem or poetry and it includes the idea of a unique creation. Each of us are a unique, one-of-a-kind masterpiece of the Creator. He has a special work for each of us to accomplish and we are designed by him for that work. The role of an educator then, is to assist the student to discover their own unique design and calling, and help them further down that path.
Our approach to education, then, is based upon this idea. We call it POIEMA pedagogy.

Most education is about a specific body of knowledge being transferred to a student over time using a variety of instructional means. There are certain parameters that must be assumed in the process.
- A definitive body of knowledge that may be constantly developing
- A level of expertise among the instructors that is progressing along with the body of knowledge
- Adequate means of instruction - time and place (or cyber space) for instruction
- Students who are willing and able to learn
- Testing to assure the learning has taken place.
